Big G split

I should keep my big mouth shut. When I came back from playing Solstock with Big G, I foolishly said:

“If Big G never play another gig …”

Well, that’s where we are – due to a variety of reasons and several weeks of inner turmoil on my part – which for some time resulted in me deciding to quit music altogether – Big G is no more.

To say I am gutted is a huge understatement – this was a very hard decision to make.

I’d like to thank the guys in the band, Craig – keyboards, Ken – bass, David – drums and particular thanks go to Andy Atkinson (vocals/harp) and Steve Murphy (bass) who did an excellent job of helping us out at Solstock. What a gig!

David & I will be continuing to play in Tri (that’s pronounced “tree”) with our friend Phil Graham with our own peculiar brand of “almost acoustic” folk-rock and blues.

I’ll also still be doing solo acoustic spots now and again, if folks will have me.
Cheers
Gary

Gigs last weekend

Although we (Big G) had to cancel our gig at Barney Big Bash last Saturday, we (Tri) played on the Friday night. It was very very cold, but the small select few in the audience seemed to enjoy our set – there was dancing, cheering and offers of bookings.

On Sunday morning David (of Tri & Big G) and I opened up Bedrock, a charity gig in aid of Tyneside Cyrenians. Although there weren’t many people around at the start of our spot, we were well received by the growing audience.

Some kind reviewers said:

highlights for me were ……………

Gary Grainger’s acoustic set …… some lovely playing and great tunes, the lad on percussion was excellent too. Shame there wasn’t more there ……. but a great start to the day.“

I’d echo Ains’ throughts on Gary Grainger – I thought his choice of tracks was exceptional and some lovely playing on a really resonant and rich sounding acoustic guitar. The percussionist on the drumbox thing showed a great ear and a lovely feel. Really enjoyed it and look forward to seing the full ‘Big G’ lineup soon. :P

And as for that tash…I was in awe ;) :o 8-)

Thanks folks – we enjoyed ourselves.
