These are some very ornate (and expensive) guitars. And I’m not to sure yet if I like them or not – some are more pleasing to me than others. If I lived with one for a while, I’d be able to make my mind up eventually, I guess!

The Blues Show: myspace.com/bluesshow
On Monday night (9-10pm) I have my first guests on this new set of blues shows. I’ll be joined in the studio by Minnie and The Victors – a great band who paid a visit to our previous studios in March 2009. (details here). I’m really looking forward to their visit – Minnie has a great voice (and a wicked sense of humour too!). Since their last visit they’ve been playing lots of gigs around the North East, and further afield too. If you’d like to hear what Minnie and The Victors sound like, you can check out their myspace page.

My friend and talented musician Tom Atkinson has had a hand in organising this gig. Tom and his band Victims of the Fury have supported The Groundhogs before, with Tom joining the onstage for a few numbers too. Like many folks of a certain age, I listened to The Groundhogs incessantly for several years, but recently I have only listened to one or two tracks – mainly their blues influenced stuff. But I will certainly be at this gig. Discussions are underway with Tony McPhee to see if we can arrange an acoustic blues session for broadcast on the Blues Show. Tom and VOTF are also coming in to the Blues Show studios to perform an acoustic set on Monday 1st Feb.
My friends DeeExpus have been voted Band Of the Year over at The Classic Rock Society. I’m chuffed for the guys! I reviewed their CD “Half Way Home” here and was invited to a secret gig which I reviewed here. They are busy working on their second album, and, although prog isn’t my every day thing, DeeExpus certainly feature heavily in rotation on my playlist. Well done guys!
