Gordon Smith – before and after

BEFORE
AFTER

Local musician Sinky (Dave) has had a total makeover done on his Gordon Smith guitar by local specialist Alan Brason, who I’ve blogged about before. (Alan doesn’t have a website) The work done?
New ebony fingerboard,16inch radius, jumbo frets, thinned the neck down, quilted top, gold hardware, swineshead pickups, new Gordon smith logo,re-sprayed. The original fingerboard was rosewood but when Alan ripped it off it was maple with rosewood veneer over the top.
The Swineshead pickups have been replaced with Motherbuckers and are, apprently, awesome. I haven’t seen the guitar in person, yet, but I’ve always had a thing for Gordon Smith guitars and for quilted maple top guitars.

Epiphone Masterbilt 500RCCE

Epiphone Masterbilt Image

When I saw Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett the other week, Fred was playing his new Epiphone guitar (they have an edorsement deal). It sounded pretty good to me and when I spoke to Fred at the end of the gig he said he was very happy with it so far – he’d only had it for a few weeks. They seem to get good reviews and there’s some video of the whole range on the Epiphone website. I’d certainly give a good home to one!

Ian Goodsman – Blues Show guest

Lil’ Ian Goodsman will be joining me in the studios of BishopFM for the Blues Show next Monday night (Dec 21st 9-10pm 105.9FM)
Ian and I knew each other a long long time ago in the old home town (Hartlepool) but lost touch. Ian moved to New Zealand where he has made quite a name for himself as a solo blues musician, playing some mean slide guitar and building up quite a reputation. I’m looking forward to his session. You can visit his website here

There’s 2 types of Hard Drives …

… those that have crashed – and those that haven’t crashed – – – – – – – – – – yet. While fixing what I thought was a power supply problem with the PC that I mainly use here at Thumbrella Towers, it turns out that I have a Hard Drive problem. And of course, it isn’t the hard drive that is full of my ripped CDs, that would be too easy, as I could restore all of that music with some work. No, it is the startup drive, with all of the programs that have been installed over the past couple of years, lots and lots of documents and other important stuff. And did I back it up? Weeeeeeeell – no. OMFG!
