There is a lot of sense in this list of strategies. If only they’d been around when I was younger, I might be a professional musician now instead of a wageslave, a regularly performing artist instead of scrabbling around at open mic sessions, and have 2 or 3 CDs worth of songs under my belt instead of a list of things “I’m gonna write a song about…”
If you’re young enough to take notice of this stuff, and passionate about your music, please do pay attention!
1. Living a life in music is a privilege. Earn it.
There is very little more satisfying then spending time making music. If you make this your life’s work, then you can be truly joyful. However, the chances of being successful are extremely low and the only people who are going to get there are going to have to work hard and earn the right to be a musician. Respect the privilege of being free enough to have this choice (if you do) and honor the opportunity.
