Alley Oop – Cuz he’s a mean motah scootah and a bad go-gettah

Going about my business at 8:00am this morning (Yes, too early seeing as I was gigging last night!), I listened to Suzi Quatro on BBC Radio 2 – they have a Sixties show every Saturday morning. As I got into the car, this song came on:
Alley Oop – The Hollywood Argyles.

The lyrics just made me smile – especially “Mean Motah Scootah” and
“Ride, Daddy, ride
Hi-yo dinosawruh
Ride, Daddy, ride
Get ’em, man
Like–hipsville”

Suzi – and a lyrics site – tell me:
The Hollywood Argyles was really just Gary Paxton with a multi-track solo.
He created the name “The Hollywood Argyles” since he was already under contract to another label as “Flip” of “Skip and Flip.”

The Holloway Pages has a load of info and art from the original Alley Oop comic strip too – that’s where I got the image from.

This site was also very interesting – it lists cover versions of songs, tells you who did them and when. Very useful for an idiot like me who is fascinated by such stuff.
